PWA Joins ESA
San Francisco, California, August 30, 2010: ESA announced today that it acquired Philip Williams & Associates, Ltd., (PWA), a San Francisco-based environmental hydrology firm specializing in river and coastal restoration with over 35 hydrologists, engineers, water specialists and scientists. The merger supports ESA’s strategy to deepen technical services in its water practice through specialized habitat restoration and water science services.

I’m delighted to now formalize our relationship and expand both firms’ capabilities and service offerings to our clients throughout the West Coast and in the Southeast,” said Gary Oates, President of ESA.
  
Philip Williams, Ph.D., P.E., Eur. Ing., President and founder of PWA stated, “By joining ESA, PWA can provide our clients with greatly expanded resources and capabilities. These interdisciplinary skills will better position us to take on the exciting challenges emerging in applied environmental science--whether in the Bay Area, Puget Sound, the Sacramento River or Coastal Louisiana.”
  
PWA has been providing clients with premier environmental hydrology services for over 34 years. Dr. Williams has been a pioneer in environmental restoration on the West Coast. He will serve as Senior Vice President and lead strategic business integration for ESA’s water practice. Ann Borgonovo will be Senior Vice President and Director of Operations for ESA PWA, as the new Environmental Hydrology group will be known, with Jeff Haltiner in the role of Senior Director.  ESA’s Molly Adolfson will be Officer-in-Charge and Practice Lead for ESA PWA.
  
Tom Roberts, ESA Senior Technical Director is Author of acclaimed mystery Drake’s Bay
ESA’s Certified Wildlife Biologist, Tom Roberts, turns his passion for history, research, and writing into acclaimed books and essays. Bobbette Biddulph named Southern California Director
San Diego, California, June 14, 2010: Bobbette Biddulph, AICP, joins ESA as vice president and Southern California Regional Director. Bobbette replaces outgoing regional director, Eric Ruby, who was appointed COO in January. She will be based out of the firm’s San Diego office and direct staff working out of ESA's San Diego, Los Angeles, Woodland Hills, and Palm Springs offices. Bobbette is a recognized CEQA/NEPA expert and brings extensive experience directing integrated service teams throughout the Southern California region.
  
Michael Burns to lead Geology-Hydrology Technical Services Group
San Francisco, California, July 15, 2010: ESA announced that Michael G. Burns has joined the firm as Geology-Hydrology Technical Services Manager. He will lead ESA’s team of geologists, hydrologists, water specialists and other technical specialists who provide services in support of environmental planning, CEQA/NEPA/SEPA, permitting, soil and groundwater investigations, and water rights. Michael brings nearly 30 years of experience in the environmental and geological sciences, providing services in planning and permitting, site characterization, soil and groundwater remediation, and water rights for industrial and manufacturing facilities, levees, landfills, refineries, research and development facilities, airports, hazardous waste management, service stations, vineyards, and commercial properties.
  
ESA EIR wins NAEP Award!
Atlanta, April 28, 2010: The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Water System Improvement Program Program Environmental Impact Report wins top honors for Planning Integration from National Association of Environmental Professionals. ESA and joint venture partner, Orion, along with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and the San Francisco Planning Department shared the honor at NAEP’s annual conference in Atlanta.
  
Margaret Clancy, PWS, named Northwest Biological Resources and Land Management Director
Seattle, Washington, May 5, 2010:  Margaret Clancy has been promoted to Director of Biological Resources and Land Management for the Northwest region. Margaret will lead a team of 15 scientists specializing in wetland science, wildlife and fisheries biology, botany, and landscape architecture. The team supports a wide range of transportation, land use planning, energy, water resources and restoration projects for public and private sector clients throughout the Pacific Northwest. Margaret, a Professional Wetland Scientist, brings 19 years of experience, including 5 years at ESA, in the Pacific Northwest. She specializes in projects involving Growth Management Act, Shoreline Management Act and Clean Water Act compliance; watershed management; and restoration. Her clients include the Port of Seattle, Whatcom County, Sound Transit, the Puget Sound Nearshore Estuary Restoration Program, and the Lummi Nation.  
  
ESA's EIR featured in Smithsonian Exhibition
Washington, DC, April 1, 2010: ESA's 1975 Environmental Impact Report on Christo's Running Fence is featured in the current exhibition of Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Remembering the Running Fence, a definitive record of the Running Fence, Sonoma and Marin Counties, California, 1972-76, a major early work of art by the world-renowned artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The work of art, a 24 1/2-mile long, 18-foot high fabric fence,lasted for 2 weeks and stretched from Petaluma, California through the town of Valley Ford and, finally, into the Pacific Ocean at the northern tip of Marin County. ESA's EIR was the first environmental impact report created for a work of art. The exhibition runs from April 1-September 26, 2010. San Francisco, April 22, 2010: ESA's sustainability plan was rolled out during Earth Day week events company wide. The plan, developed over the last two years, recommits company resources to reducing waste and lowering ESA's carbon footprint substantially by 2012. The plan outlines the company's vision, establishes goals and strategies, frames policies to guide actions and then specifies measures and actions to meet goals.
