Eric Ruby

Chief Operating Officer

As senior vice president and chief operating officer, Eric leads the operational functions of the firm with a solid understanding of our industry. Working alongside practice leaders, regional directors, and corporate services, Eric turns strategy into action, ensuring operational efficiency, project staffing, team integration, product delivery and responsive solutions that meet today's challenges with an eye to our clients' future needs.

As an urban and environmental planner, Eric has completed dozens of complex planning and environmental analyses during his 31 years of experience in planning, strategic entitlement, environmental documentation, and regulatory permitting in ESA's traditional markets. Before joining the firm, he was vice president of forward planning and environmental compliance for a national residential developer. Previously, he served as the western regional manager for planning and environmental services at a large engineering and environmental consulting firm where he oversaw four offices and a diverse staff of planners, environmental specialists, architects, and engineers.

Eric holds a Bachelor of Arts in social ecology and environmental science from the University of California at Irvine. He is a member of the American Planning Association, Association of Environmental Professionals, Building Industry Association, and the Urban Land Institute.
