Christina Schaefer Joins ESA’s Southern California Team

Environmental Science Associates (ESA), a leading California environmental consulting firm, is pleased to announce that Christina Schaefer, MLA, has joined our Southern California team as Director of Biological Resources and Land Management in our San Diego office. A leader in the fields of resources management, biological assessment, conservation science and restoration ecology, Christina joins our growing Southern California team of more than 10 scientists specializing in biological resources, resources management, wetlands studies, habitat restoration, permitting, and monitoring.

“With more than 25 years of experience under her belt, Christina’s continuous understanding of the evolving Southern California regulatory environment pertaining to new habitat conservation and mitigation strategies, including Natural Communities Conservation Programs and Adaptive Management Plans, will be highly valued by our clients,” says Greg Ainsworth, ESA’s Southern California Biological Resources and Land Management Director.
A biologist and landscape ecologist, Christina brings expertise in resources management and conservation planning, restoration ecology, mitigation policy, and endangered species consultation. She has recently completed several habitat management plans that included managed grazing, management endowment calculations and vernal pool restoration. Her unique qualifications include the development of statistically rigorous sampling design for baseline ecological studies, long-term trend monitoring and adaptive management. She has provided expert testimony in biological mitigation cases and is currently providing scientific advice on the City of San Diego’s Vernal Pool Habitat Conservation Plan. Christina holds a Masters of Landscape Architecture from the School of Renewable Natural Resources at the University of Arizona in Tuscon and a Master of Science in Landscape Stewardship/ Landscape Ecology from the University of Munich Weihenstaphan, Freising in Germany.
