08.31.2011
ESA PWA, formerly Philip Williams & Associates, is pleased to announce that Christina Toms has joined the San Francisco office as an Ecological Engineer on the Wetlands and Estuaries Team. In her new position, she will be responsible for the coordination and design of a variety of aquatic ecosystem management, enhancement, and restoration projects along the west coast.
“Christina brings hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of restoring tidal wetland and coastal lagoon ecosystems throughout Northern California. Her creative and integrative approach to engineering science will help us advance the sustainable and equitable management of water-dependent ecosystems,” says Ann Borgonovo, PE, ESA PWA Director.
Christina has nine years of experience in ecological engineering, a growing field that integrates ecological science into every step of the engineering design process. Her experience spans project planning and design, tidal wetland restoration engineering, coastal lagoon assessment, limnology, wetland science and engineering, water quality enhancement, CEQA support, and GIS/cartography.
Christina holds a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Resources Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park. Prior to joining ESA she worked for a private consulting firm in the San Francisco area, managing projects including the Sonoma Land Trust’s Sears Point Restoration Project; the State and Federal Contractors Water Agency’s Lower Yolo Restoration Project; and the San Mateo County Resource Conservation District’s Pilarcitos Lagoon Habitat Enhancement Feasibility Project. She is a member of the American Ecological Engineering Society and the Salmonid Restoration Federation.
