Los Angeles Multifamily Residential Recycling Pilot Program
While exploring options to green their city, Los Angeles implemented a large pilot recycling program for more than 40,000 multifamily dwelling units that would serve as a model for their city-wide program.
ESA managed the pilot recycling program that involved signing up multifamily complexes, distributing blue bags to residents for storing recyclables, placing 95-gallon wheeled carts in central areas and collecting recyclables using automated side-loading vehicles. Our team developed multi-language outreach materials in English, Spanish and Korean; conducted meetings with property owners and tenants and subcontracts for the collection, processing and recovery of recyclables. We maintained a toll-free pilot program hotline number and website to assist residents with program participation. Progress was regularly monitored and reported to the City, and together, we worked with City staff to transition to the now implemented citywide multifamily recycling program.
Successfully managed, planned, and implemented a multifamily residence recycling pilot program in Los Angeles that informed the citywide multifamily recycling program.
